We are once again in the hurricane season.  We have already been advised to take action in preparation of a hurricane.  The 'Sun-Sentinel' recently enclosed a copy of "The Official Broward County Hurricane Preparedness Guide".  It is a very informative brochure and  I suggest that everyone take advantage of its contents.  If you did not receive a copy, go to www.broward.org/hurricane to download a copy.  It is well worth the effort.

Friday's, June 13, 2008, 'Sun-Sentinel'  had an article 'Relief relies less on government' which informed us that FEMA will not provide free ice after a hurricane, it must be purchased at one of 50 grocery stores or 25 gas stations that have the capability to remain open.  The above web address lists those sites which will carry ice.  FEMA also announced that it plans to focus on basic needs like water and food.

'Chuck Lanza, Broward's new emergency management director said the decision on ice is in keeping with the long-standing message that residents must be prepared to survive on their own for at least 72 hours after a storm hits.'

Also stated in Friday's paper was that Broward will now use 311 along with 954-831-4000 as its hurricane hotline.
